Baumann Records began in 1984 by Rev. Daniel Baumann Tolliver. He wanted to release an album for his church's choir, Crowley Temple Mass Choir. It was hard shopping for a label because the church was small. No one would take a chance on Crowley Temple. Rev. Tolliver got together with his church congregation, and two area businessmen and raised the money to get the album recorded, produced, and manufactured. Rev. Tolliver had everyone selling the albums, even the producer of the album, Norman Hall. Norman was a young, hot, songwriter/producer. He, Rev. Tolliver, and Min. Davis Brushard wrote all of the songs on the album. Norman would become the second artist to sign with Baumann Records. The choir's album did well. In 1985, Baumann Records received two partners, James Davidson and Ned Washington, Jr. Baumann was able to sign Norman Hall. Norman kept asking Rev. Tolliver if he could sign with Baumann. Rev. Tolliver finally agreed. Norman is the top selling solo artist on Baumann Records. The Absanie Community Choir signed with Baumann Records in 1986. They are the top selling choir on Baumann Records. A young powerful singer, Sparkles Robinson, who sung with the Absanie Community Choir, caught Norman Hall's attention. He worked with her for awhile and then presented her to Rev. Tolliver. Sparkles was only 15 at the time. Rev. Tolliver asked her to wait until she turned 18. In 1990, when Sparkles was 19, she signed with Baumann Records. The next artist to sign was Rev. Jaridon Ransom. Rev. Ransom caught Rev. Tolliver's attention while Rev. Ransom was running a revival. Rev. Ransom did not want to sign with Baumann Records at first because it was small and only had four other artists at that time. In 1994, Rev. Ransom signed with Baumann Records. He had one of the fastest selling albums that Baumann Records had released since its start up. Rev. Ransom's album had some of the hottest songwriters and producers on it. He was the first artist on Baumann Records to release a sermon. Ike Jenkins also signed in 1994. Baumann Records is now a popular gospel record label in the state of Maddocha and the surrounding area. Baumann Records has a lot of excellent artists that are very popular. |
